SIDCO Industrial Estate at Kumbakudi expansion

TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation (TANSIDCO) has requested the Tiruchi district administration to allot an additional 30 acres of land for the expansion of the SIDCO Industrial Estate at Kumbakudi near the city, according to its Chairman and Managing Director D. Rajendran.

Delivering the valedictory address at a two-day conference on ‘Entrepreneurial Opportunities for Women,’ organised jointly by the Centre for Women’s Studies of the Bharathidasan University and the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Tamil Nadu (WEAT) here on Saturday, Mr.Rajendran disclosed that the corporation has also requested the Ariyalur district administration to identify a suitable land for establishing an industrial estate.

Work was underway in establishing an industrial estate at Elambalur in Perambalur district and the TANSIDCO has been allotted a portion of land at the SIPCOT estate in Pudukottai for setting up a separate industrial estate for small and medium industries.

Stating that the government was taking steps to establish industrial estates in every district and strengthen the infrastructure of the existing ones, Mr.Rajendran said a site has been identified near Manavasi for establishing an industrial estate in Karur district.

Mr. Rajendran said TANSIDCO was keen on promoting a cluster based approach among entrepreneurs. It was prepared to allot large plots of about one acre at the Kumbakudi estate for engineering clusters which come forward to go for a tie-up with the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited.

There were 78 TANSIDCO industrial estates and several development works were being taken up at the existing estates.

Allotment of plots in the estates was being done in a transparent manner after the project proposals were evaluated by a screening committee, he said.

M. Kumara Raja, Secretary, Coir Board, Kochi, appealed to the women entrepreneurs to avail the schemes and assistance programmes implemented by the board.

S. Sridharan, President, Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association, appealed to the SIDCO to come forward to support the establishment of a industrial complex, exclusively for small and medium industries, for the benefit of women entrepreneurs in Tiruchi.

Senthil Annamalai, former chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry, Tiruchi, Santhya, Senior Manager, Punjab National Bank, Rani Muralidharan, President, WEAT, and N. Manimekalai, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, spoke.

Earlier, Mr. Rajendran gave away the Canbazaar awards to best women entrepreneurs and certificates to women who had undergone computer training.
