Satellite based navigation systems for Trichy Aiport


Airports Authority of India (AAI) is in the final stages of finalising modalities with Indian Space Research Organisation to procure satellite based navigation systems in airports across the country, a top AAI official said here today. "This system will enable airline operators for easy navigational operations under GPS (global Positioning System) mode and will help seamless surveillance viewing and enhance better access to pilots during landing and take-off," D Devaraj, Executive Director (Southern Region), AAI said. He said Tiruchirapalli airport would be included in the shadow mode radar network of the southern region by August this year. Already airports at Thiruvananthapuram, Mangalore, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai are under this ambit.Devaraj said airport runway expansion at Tiruchirapalli is very much on the cards and state government was also keen on providing the required land. However all of this would depend on the acreage of land provided, he said
