Srirangam upgraded as revenue division
In order to give a boost to infrastructure and give additional
facelift to chief minister's assembly constituency, the Srirangam taluk
will be upgraded to a revenue division. Though a government order to
this effect was issued on June 3, when the CM was in Srirangam, it was
not announced by her. District collector Jayashree Muralidharan said
that a formal announcement would be released later when the actual work
on the bifurcation takes effect.
At present, Trichy is divided into three revenue divisions: Trichy (comprising taluks of Trichy, Srirangam, Thiruverumbur and Manapparai), Musiri (comprising taluks of Musiri, Thuraiyur and Thottiyam) and Lalugudi (comprising taluks of Lalgudi and Mannachanallur). All the three revenue division had nine taluks in all and on June 3, the Trichy taluk was further divided into Trichy East and Trichy West and Manapprarai taluk was bifurcated into Manapparai and Marungapuri taluks, taking the total of number of taluks to 11.
Though it was common knowledge that most of the government schemes were introduced in Srirangam constituency for the first time, the recent move is seen as another facilitator to help the masses of the Srirangam assembly constituency further. Now, all of a sudden, Trichy division is bifurcated into Trichy and Srirangam divisions for further focus on the CM's constituency. Incidentally, Srirangam taluk at present has 66 revenue villages as against 96 revenue villages in the Manapparai taluk, which too comes under the Trichy division.
The new Srirangam division will have the taluks of Srirangam, Trichy East and Marungapuri, while the Trichy division will henceforth have the taluks of Trichy West, Thiruverumbur and Manapparai under its wings. There will a need for two additional RDOs (revenue divisional officer) in additional to other logistical requirements. Source
