Butterfly park to be open by Pongal
The Tropical Butterfly Park, a much awaited tourist
destination of the people of Tiruchi, will be ready to receive visitors
by Pongal, said a forest official.
Spread across 25
acres in Upper Anicut reserve forest in Srirangam, under the ambit of
the Tiruchi forest division, the park boasts host plants that attract
the winged beauties, and ideal soil and temperature conditions. The
objective behind the initiative is to provide a beautiful environment
for the butterflies to breed. The numerous butterflies in the park would
be a source of delight for nature lovers, environmentalists, and
general public. The project would include Nakshatra Vanam, outdoor conservatory and an indoor conservatory for breeding butterflies. The Nakshatra Vanam would
contain trees related to the zodiac signs and stars of Indian
astrology. There would also be sanitary facilities for visitors.
“Only the outdoor conservatory would be open to public during Pongal.
The
public are quite eager to experience the one of its kind attraction in
the district and we don’t want to keep them waiting for long,” said an
official.
An amount of Rs. 4 crore is yet to be
sanctioned by the government for the completion of the Rs. 8.67 crore
project, say officials.
